Create
Babies, toddlers and young children learn through creative play.
Draw
Read to or tell your child about clowns and the circus. Discuss what clowns look like, their clothes and their expressions. Use the story and discussion to inspire an artwork. Using crayons, paints, glue and paper in lots of colours and shapes, they can create their own clown face or circus characters.
Write
Write the letters that make up the word 'clown' on four separate A4 pages. Sound out the letters and mix them up, then help your child put the letters in the correct order to spell the word.
Gently trace the letters with your child’s finger or they can write over the letters with a different coloured pencil.
Create
Make a Ringmaster's megaphone
A3 craft paper
Tape or stapler
Crayons, markers and stickers
Help your child decorate their paper to be bright and cheery. When decorated, roll the paper into a megaphone shape and tape or staple into place, leaving enough space for a mouth piece.
Make your own Big Top
Take a large sheet and spread it over a table, between chairs or over a washing line. Using your child's soft toys as the circus animals and characters, make the Big Top come alive. Engage in imaginative play together by creating some acts.
- make tickets to hand out for the show
- have the animals perform tricks to amaze your audience
- using dress–ups, create circus costumes with your child so that they can perform in the show
- young children can sing, be a clown, perform a trick or tame an animal
- serve popcorn in plastic cups
Invite family and friends to roll up and join in the fun!
