Draw

Pick one of your favourite characters from a book you have enjoyed and draw them. What do you think they look like? Are they tall and hairy? Or are they short and green? Do they have red or black hair? Are they missing any teeth? Are they holding anything?

If you want to keep drawing, why not put your character in their paradise? Before you start drawing, brainstorm a list of all their favourite things. This will help you to create their ultimate paradise.

Write

Pick one of your favourite characters from a book or movie that you have seen, you can use the character from the drawing activity, and write a short story about them. Try to think of something that they haven’t done before, for example you could send Harry Potter to the beach.

Keep those creative juices flowing and contribute to ‘What happens next?’.

Make

Shadow puppets

Have you ever made shadow shapes on a wall using your hands and a light? There is another way to make interesting shadows too. Follow these steps to make a shadow puppet of Snap the bilby and Croak the frog.

What you’ll need

1. Print out the following pages and make shadow puppets of Croak and Snap.

2. If you are feeling extra creative, or don’t have a printer, try and draw Croak and Snap yourself. Remember to draw each body part separately – just like the ones you can print – and leave some paper so you can stick the limbs to the body with a paper fastener. This way the legs and arms will be able to move.

3. Make a small hole through the tabs and the body of the puppet.

4. Pin the limbs to the body using a paper fastener – a fastener that you stick through a hole and bend back the ends in opposite directions.

5. Set up a lamp to face a blank wall and move your puppets in front of it.

6. Why not write a short play that you can perform for your family friends?
